Government Grants
To help howeowners save energy, save money, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Ontario Government will award up to $5000.00 for home energy improvements to home owner.This amount is matched by the federal government grant of $5000.00 for a total of $10,000.000 per home owner. The total amount per window or door is $80.00 each. Keep in mind that the rebate refers to R.O. (Rough Openings),so if your replacing a large picture window like a bay or bow that looks like there is 4,5,6 windows, typically would only count as 1 window.
All products must be Energy Star qualified for our zone and proof must be shown to your energy auditor to prove they are Energy Star approved. If your thinking about rebates and you only need windows & doors and are not doing any other home energy improvement renovations keep in mind that a home energy audit will cost about $500.00, the Ontario Government will refund back $150.00, so you will still have $350 of your own money into the audit.
You will need to do at least 5 windows to break even, but having the audit done could also be beneficial in the event you decide to sell your home. Having the certified paperwork to prove your home's energy efficiency is always a nice extra selling feature.
